What is MUSE?

MUSE is for anyone. It is time spent together with a foundation in Music along with Art, Movement, Improvisation, and Word. It’s purpose is to engage the Self through creative forms and shared experiences that engage us with our creative muse. It’s about finding something that we may have lost along the way in our life or exploring something new.

Who founded MUSE?

Founded by Jill Marlar who for over 25 years has worked in several different creative areas. She is a “Jill of several trades” so to speak, living her life as a teacher, visual artist, actress, musician, writer, and to top it off in her mid forties opened a coffee shop with her husband James Little in early 2019. After selling their beloved Birmingham coffee shop Filter Coffee Parlor, they have relocated their family to Greenville Alabama to be near family roots and support creative arts along with economic sustainability in the historic downtown.

Jill’s creative business path began in 2001 with teaching music classes after school that later expanded into a thriving enrichment experience for after school students of all ages throughout the year. Her teaching schedule allowed for time in the art studio where she focused primarily on intaglio printmaking creating several thousand hand editioned original prints. Continuing her lifelong love for music and acting she often works on various creative projects. She is a trained singer, voiceover artist, and actress who continues to share her talents in her work as well as teach. For Jill, creativity is the root where she draws from and teaching allows her to share that in her home, businesses or wherever she finds herself. Her mission is to allow others to know that their individual voice matters and to believe they have a fulfilling purpose in life.

What is the purpose of MUSE?

MUSE is designed to elevate the voice by deepening the connection to Self through shared creative experiences. It is a time to explore using various forms of creativity and share with others. The sharing allows for confidence building and also gives a place to explore different ideas.

What is the structure of MUSE?

MUSE is for adults who need a way to connect creatively. A weekly gathering with a purpose of sharing and support. Time spent together allows for exploration in a variety of creative forms including music, word, movement, and voice that tap into creative roots helping to strengthen the confidence and desire to create. Guest creatives from the area and across our region are invited to lead workshops. It is not about mastery, but to put the body and mind into a place where doing is more important than the end result. The process IS the goal and it’s intent is to reignite the creative fire.

Who is for MUSE?

Anyone wanting a time to express and connect with others in a safe and welcoming space.
